EU To Sponsor Nigerian Fashion Designer Kadiju To Madrid Fashion Week"

The European Union (EU) has chosen to sponsor a talented Nigerian fashion designer for this year's Madrid Fashion Week in September. This opportunity was granted as a prize for winning the 2023 Europe Day Afro-Euro Runway fashion show held in Abuja over the weekend. The recipient of the sponsorship is Oyindamola Aleshinloye, known by the brand name "Kadiju," who emerged as the winner of the inaugural edition of the Fashion Show organized by the EU. Aleshinloye was selected as the victor among seven finalists, chosen from a pool of 124 young Nigerian designers who had submitted their entries. The judges based their decision on five key criteria: Afro-Euro fusion interpretation, creativity, execution, cohesiveness and presentation, and storytelling. Samira Mohammed, also known as Sultana, secured the second position, followed by Oluchi George, known as Malite, in third place, and Happiness Miwori, known as Jasmineafrik, in fourth place. Each of the runners-up received different prizes. The EU Ambassador to Nigeria and West Africa, Ms. Samuela Isopi, expressed that the Afro-Euro initiative successfully identified talented individuals. She emphasized the importance of innovation and skills in the fashion industry, particularly in the European Year of Skills in 2023. The fashion runway showcased a fusion of African and European designs, highlighting the cultural and fashion diversity of both continents.
