As reported by local media, a tragic incident unfolded in Namibia's Kayova village, located in the northeastern region of Kavango, resulting in the loss of thirteen lives. The affected individuals were all members of a household comprising 22 people. Distressingly, the majority of the deceased were children who were reportedly experiencing severe malnutrition.

 

According to the country's health ministry, as relayed by the state broadcaster NBC, the family had consumed a porridge made from pearl millet flour and fermented sediment obtained from a homemade beverage. It is believed that this combination of ingredients led to the toxic nature of the porridge.

 

In response to the devastating incident, the health ministry acted swiftly by dispatching a team of professionals to provide psychological support and counseling to the grieving family. This effort aims to assist them in coping with the profound loss they have endured.

 

Furthermore, samples of the porridge have been sent to South Africa for thorough testing in order to determine the presence of any harmful substances that may have caused food poisoning.
